My Room on the Nathaniel B. Palmer

I got the top bunk. Just enough room to lie down. It is easy to get in (one step half way up the ladder, then swing in horizontal). I still haven't figured out how to get out gracefully. And we are still in port, no roll yet.

Contours

If you like maps you should fly in to Santiago, Chile. Whoever designed the mountains in the region was helpful enough to put contour lines right on them. Sorry for the lousy image, it was taking through the reflective pane of an airplane window and then the quality was reduced so it could be transmitted off the boat.

This post is testing a few things I've set up for the trip to Antarctica: post via email, post photos, and tag for map (http://spacebit.org/maps/NBP09-01 ).

Apologies to those of you that have seen a bunch of "test" posts but I'm a bit nervous about the setup and it has had some recent problems due to some WordPress plugins going haywire.

Not much to test from here out. Either it works and you get some stories and photos or it doesn't and you get some photos but not until the I get back.

Iceberg

I'm still in New York, testing some equipment. This image was uploaded via satellite phone-as-modem. I'm not sure how long it will take to upload this. I'm timing it, and will add the results in the comments section of this post. If it is reasonably quick I'll be posting lots of photos (of this size and quality) during the trip. Otherwise just some text...

New England Ice Storm

And this is a test to see if posting images via email works. This photo is a sunset through ice-covered trees from the recent New England Ice Storm.
